Support Gray’s in supporting European initiative

Published 12 November 2008

Gray's School of Art is one of six partner organisations supporting the launch of the most comprehensive international survey ever run on education and training related to design and the creative industries.

The European Design Training Incubator (EDTI) is a unique and innovative pan-European pilot project, pulling together educational institutions and organisations involved in lifelong learning to share resources and knowledge. It aims to support the creative industries in Europe through design training and education. The results of its ambitious and innovative benchmarking initiative will lead to the development of an international collaborative training database supported by the European Union.

The series of surveys intends to underline the role of designers and creative people in society and in the economy. From the continuing education perspective, it will also identify the training needs of designers and their clients, companies and public institutions. Design is higher on the agenda of companies and governments than at any time before and it is important that designers have access to training throughout their careers in order to stay at the cutting edge of progress and innovation.

One of EDTI's main tasks will be to identify the training needs of business sectors which use design. An innovative aspect of the EDTI survey will be a quarterly barometer dedicated to young graduates to highlight the realities faced by young designers and architects when they start their professional careers. A similar survey will be dedicated to unemployed designers.

Those who work in the creative industries and those who use the services of the creative industries are encouraged to take part.

The surveys have been formatted to be as user-friendly as possible and are available in English, German, French, Estonian and Bulgarian.
